Over the entrance of the Delphic Temple - the significance of which for the ancient world echoes through the ages, one could see the inscription "know thyself" - not know others, know your job, know your world, but know yourself. It is not a novel maxim, we have all heard it at some point in our lives, or felt its need. To what degree we have comprehended its real depth and value, and to what degree we have implemented it in our life, is the issue that this total Lunar ecplipse, of 28 September 2015, uncomfortably stirs.

The eclipse happens on the Libra - Aries axis, on the fifth degree, and the ascendant of its chart is at seventeen degrees Virgo [16°F05’] with coordinates for Athens, Greece. The eclipse's Sun is in the first house of the eclipse's chart, conjunct Mercury retrograde in Libra. The moon is in the seventh house. This axis by itself brings the major issue of every human life to the foreground: I; and on a secondary level, others. I, through the lens of the starsign of Libra, who always seeks his mirroring to the person opposite in order to define himself. And realises during this astrological event the violence that the image "others" reflect back to us, may exercise on us; or the unbearable burden of the image of preference we choose to project, when it clashes with who we truly seek to become.

Total Lunar Eclipse, 28 September, 2015, 5:50, Athens, Greece

The Sun in the first house seeks to express itself in its entirety. The person wishes to project an original tone, an original melody. Mercury retrograde, soon to close its conjunction with the Sun and ruler of this chart, comes to aid the person in his search for this tone. The apparent extroversion of the Sun and Mercury in the first house sinks in the inward quest dictated by this conjunction with Mercury retrograde - always pausing the external to give the floor to the esoteric, and the laden with Venus, Mars and Jupiter twelfth house of the eclipse, ruled by the Sun.

Let There Be Light, Wynn Bullock

The tone we desire to sound is not at our disposal; it is not easily accessible. It is more of a feeling and an innate whisper that there is something within us, something very familiar, more familiar than anything else we have ever seen, said, felt, expressed, which we are missing. And this triggers an agony, which turns into worry, which turns into nerves, which may turn into violence, anger and tension, despite our deep-seated desire to both "be" and "be able" with others. The Moon, ruling the eleventh house, in Aries, may momentarily be hiding in the Earth's shadow, but still constitutes a potent volume of explosive psychological material, which could interrupt or at least delay our quest - if not put to proper use, by mixing our true wants with pointless and blind selfishness.

The Moon in the seventh house is an excellent illustration of every unconscious influence that determines and shapes our perception, our desires and behaviour. Coloured by the starsign of Aries, trine Saturn in the third house - ruler of the fifth, it shows how unreasoning the familiar may be; how violent the reaction of both ourselves and others when we attempt to enter deeper levels of understanding; to change; to become more of ourselves when we don't yet know how. In reality however, this placement does not fall far from the pattern set by this astrological event in general: the conscious and responsible search of how to transmutate ourselves more effectively; of how we will take the reservoir of all things inherited and wire it to work for us without bowing to its operation. The first maxim is that we should stop fearing the change of the scenario for our future. If we change, it will change too.

This eclipse pushes us to seek out the inner, with special weight essence that we want to express. It binds half-truths and nebulous images in a never-ending feeling of insatiability. Mercury retrograde, ruler of both the ascendant in Virgo and the MC in Gemini, and square Pluto, dictates an inner quest with clear method, the assassination of randomness in the relationship with ourselves; the clear selection of our every word and move; the censorship of meaningless words. But it doesn't dictate misanthropy, as both the ascendant and the emphasis on the Aries-Libra and 1-7 house axis, speak clearly of man in the midst of the social process; neither at its outskirts, nor ostracised.

Venus, ruling the ninth and second house and dispositor of the first house stellium, in Leo, in the twelfth house and in close cooperation with Uranus retrograde in Aries, in the eighth and ruling the sixth house, reinforces the issue of the need for self-knowledge. A self-knowledge that has begun in the mud of the need for expression and the fear of forsaking the present image; fear of transiting to a more substantial life philosophy; and, finally, fear of inadvertently losing our cheerfulness, the joie de vivre. Nevertheless, Uranus' incendiary, fiery and primarily introverted influence, rends almost irreversibly the winding sheet which used to hide all unfit for the true Self behaviours beneath fears of loss of financial and emotional security. It laughingly pierces holes in the daisy-adorned lilo we have used as a philosophical raft in order to cross the ocean of ourselves.

The light channeled in the traditionally shadowy 8th and 12th houses brings to the surface everything crude and unsatisfied we have within us. It exposes us regarding our stance in our love relationships; in our financial relationships; regarding our obligations as members of a lawful society. It is greatly aided in the aforementioned task by the ruler of the eighth house, Mars, in Virgo, in the twelfth house.

The Illusion of Light, Kevian
The influence of the eclipse though harbours much greater complexity; the complexity that makes Astrology so magnificent. Anyone who has made even the smallest change during his lifetime, knows that change is not easy while in the making. Naturally, every organism and system that has not wholly succumbed to paranoia, wants to avoid the pain of change. In this occurrence, Neptune, the planet-maître of illusion comes to offer us - should we need it - the ability to steer our development to a different path; to delay diving toward our personal truth and wander for a while longer in the space of its scented nebulae. Retrograde and ruling the seventh house, through its opposition with Mars, the inconjunct with Mercury and the opposition with Jupiter - ruler of the fourth, in the twelfth, it will soften the outlines of the unpleasant truths we are coming to realise in our love relationships and our relationships in general. It will moreover allow us to feel guilt and fear regarding the possibility of leaving the house of the parents, with all its beliefs, security, the comfortable feeling of a worn slipper, but also its intense friction with our absolutely personal vision for our position in this world. Neptune will aid us in primping, for a while longer, our own fears that allow all of the above to exist, but also the person opposite so that they all may seem a bit better, well-tolerated by our system, for a while longer. Until we will no longer be able to tolerate our own blindsightedness and ambiguity.

I personally find myself in awe, once more, with the elegance and wisdom of the energy matrix that the universe has created in order to aid us in our struggle for the true coming of age in our individual lives, and as human species. This chart of the eclipse is pushing us to behold us and discover us so rapidly that we almost feel the need to stumble in order to not accelerate so quickly. But it also creates a safety net, spawn of familiar images, which will hold us back and down for a while should our fear of heights kick in. The cosmic energies are calling on us to look boldly inside and search for our unique tone, our true self in the shadows, with the certainty that he is the key that will synthesise light and darkness within us, individual and society, our desires and potential into a living, gleaming whole, bursting with joy and creativity. And that will be us.

Monday's lunar eclipse will mostly be felt by those born in the middle of the first decanate of the cardinal starsigns, Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn, as well as those with personal planets in these degrees. It should be noted that only the analysis of the personal natal chart can provide accuracy regarding the dynamics in the life of a specific individual and it cannot be replaced by any general analysis. .
